Course profile: Working Alone & Working with Risk

This course aims to provide awareness of safer working practice for lone working. Participants will be familiar with the principles of risk assessment as well as risk management within this context. At the end of the course participants should be ‘Risk Aware’ with the ability to identify risks to service users, self and others. They should be able to implement safety measures using provided Assessment tools.

  • What do we mean by “reasonable risk”?
  • Why do we take risks in life (in general) and in social care and support in particular?
  • What do we mean by “Risk Assessment” and why is important to “Risk Assess”?
  • The personal implications of working with Risk and managing these
  • The value of Risk Screening and compiling Risk Events History
  • Areas of Risk relevant to the Service Group i.e. Suicide, Self Harm, Exploitation etc.
  • Legislation that underpins risk assessment and lone working
  • How Risk Assessments integrate with individual support plans
  • What we mean by generic risk assessments and when these are appropriate
  • Developing an analytical approach regarding Risk Events using critical incident analysis model
  • Crisis and Contingency Planning
