COURSE PROFILE: COSHH/INFECTION CONTROL

INTRODUCTION

This course is suitable for all members of staff. It will focus on providing practical information on a number of communicable diseases and general requirements under the COSHH Regulations. This information will then be used to develop effective strategies of good working practice for dealing with both bodily fluids and working with chemicals.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this training the learner will be able to:

  • Explain what is involved in Universal Precautions, and why this safe practice needs to be applied at all times
  • Explore what actions the participant can take to limit the risk to themselves and the spread of infection within the workplace, including how to deal with needle stick injuries
  • State the basic requirements under the COSHH Regulations including safe working practice relating to the use of chemicals and appropriate methods for dealing with waste and spillage
  • Summarise basic information relating to the transmission of a number of diseases, including: HIV, Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, M.R.S.A., Tetanus & Meningitis

  • Meningitis, Universal Precautions
  • Dealing with sharps and needle stick injuries

  • The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH)
