Workshop Profile: Being in a Group (1-3 days)
It is not unusual for people to secretly dread the group experience and for a
significant minority of people the group experience is experienced as being so
stressful that their professional function is severely challenged.
This workshop is designed for people who are fearful of groups or wish to
improve their performance within a group
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course participants should have:
• Understood what they might experience in a group
• Begun the process of desensitisation to fear of groups
• Developed their confidence and assertiveness skills in groups
Content:
• Warm-up and trust exercises
• Group contract
• Basic group dynamic awareness
• Basic assertiveness and feedback skills
• Exercises in self-affirmation
• Relaxation and visualisation exercises
• Stress management exercises
• Exercises in various learning techniques
• Exercises in role-play; games
• Safe experimentation with self-disclosure
• Discussion and exercises in couples, small and larger groups
Working methods:
Whilst the facilitator will provide a structure for the
workshop, they will also respond to needs that emerge in the group.
The approach taken will be highly supportive and empathic. Whilst participants
will be encouraged to safely explore areas, the facilitator will respect
participants to withdraw from participating in specific exercises should these
be experienced as being too stressful
