Course profile: Fire, Furniture, Gas & Electrical Safety
This course is aimed at any person or group of staff working in a support setting. It is designed to be practical and interactive as well as looking at the legal requirements. This course can be adapted to be held in a work situation so that participants may gain maximum benefit from the session.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this training the learner should be able to:
• Explain their responsibilities with regard to their
organisational policies and procedures for each of the areas mentioned
• Explain the appropriate course of action in the event of a fire in their
workplace
• Identify who is responsible for Fire Drills within the workplace and how fire
equipment is checked/tested or maintained
• Identify what further information and local courses they may need to access

• The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and other
relevant legislation
• The properties of fire
• How people behave in a fire situation
• The safe way to respond to a fire situation
• Safe evacuation of the workplace
• Record keeping and maintenance of fire equipment
• Reducing potential fire hazards
• The principles of extinguishing a fire
• Electrical safety
• Gas safety
• Furniture and furnishing requirements
