Course profile: Fire Safety
This course is aimed at any person or group of staff working in a care setting. It is designed to be practical and interactive as well as looking at the legal requirements. This course can be adapted to be held in a work situation so that participants may gain maximum benefit from the session.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this training the learner should be able to:
• State the main requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order
2005
• Summarise what they are expected to do when responding to a fire situation
within their workplace
• Identify potential fire hazards within their workplace and explore suitable
prevention measures to reduce the likelihood of fire
• List the properties of fire and how this may be applied when tackling a fire
safely
Course content:
• The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and other relevant
legislation
• The properties of fire
• How people behave in a fire situation
• The safe way to respond to a fire situation
• Safe evacuation of the workplace
• Record keeping and maintenance of fire equipment
• Identifying potential fire hazards
• Reducing potential fire hazards
• Fire fighting equipment
• The principles of extinguishing a fire
• Use of a fire blanket
N.B. A practical exercise demonstrating the use of fire extinguishers can only be included if there are suitable facilities and the extinguishers can be provided.
