Course Profile: Effective Planning (1 day)

Often there are poor outcomes to support plans and projects as a result of lack of or poor planning. Time invested in considered planning usually results in the issues being more rationally considered and thus more realistic strategies being formulated.

This course, designed for senior staff and managers aims to provide planning models that could be utilised in major organisational change as well as in everyday activities.

Learning Objectives:

  • the need for effective planning and the consequences of poor or inadequate planning
  • the 5 stage model of planning
  • how to implement a plan in their work place
  • Content:

  • What do we mean by planning?
  • Why plan?
  • The potential negative outcomes of no or poor planning
  • A rational approach to planning
  • Assessment: ensuring that the base line is understood; ways in which this can be analysed
  • Goal setting/objective setting (to include SMARTER)
  • The planning stage; to include. Methods to be adopted; timescales; Identifying partners; Motivating others; Negotiating and contingency; ; Standard setting; Monitoring etc
  • Implementation
  • Evaluating outcomes
