Course Profile: Confidence Building (1 – 3 days)

Lack of confidence can inhibit the performance of staff and indirectly impact on the quality of the service being offered to service users. This course, taking workshop form, explores the underpinning sources of lack of confidence. It aims to help participants examine the life experiences that possibly led to this lack of confidence. The course also aims to facilitate participants examining a range of strategies that might improve self esteem and confidence at work.

This course is only suitable for those who are willing and able to explore the theme on a very personal level.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course learners should have understood:

  • the importance of staff confidence in providing support services
  • why some people are lacking in confidence and how this manifests
  • a range of approaches that might improve self esteem and develop confidence
  • Content:

  • The need for staff to be assertive in the workplace; benefits for the individual and indirectly for service users
  • The potential consequences of lack of confidence including. the impact of non assertive behaviour on performance.
  • What leads to some of us being under-confident? What were the family influences? How did our school experience impact on us? How did our peer group and later influences affect our confidence?
  • A Transactional Analysis model
  • How negative experience such as failure knocks one’s confidence
  • Options for healing; what can be done to draw a line underneath the past and start anew
  • Changing our behaviour
  • What can be done to develop our confidence
  • Personal action planning
