Course Profile: Introduction to Child Protection

This course aims to provide participants with a thorough introduction to child protection. It enables participants to be able to explore their own attitudes to child protection and recognise signs of abuse and neglect requiring a child protection response. The course also practically explores how participants would refer a child onto Social Services. Participants are encouraged to consider best practice issues around child protection, including inter-agency working and anti-discriminatory practice. Participants will also be encouraged to recognise and consider barriers to good practice. Recent developments in the field of child protection, such as the Laming Enquiry and the Children’s Bill, will also be explored.
